Citrus Carpet Deodorizer

Our old house had hardwood floors all the way throughout. That was lovely! Daily I would grab my old' faithful straw broom and sweep my palace. Usually multiple times a day but that was ok. I knew my floors were clean. Well we left that dearly loved hardwood floor and moved cross country to an apartment with spotted carpet. When you rent the cheapest place in town there's bound to be imperfections. I vacuum frequently but it's nothing like sweeping hardwood. No matter how many times you vaccum or what you use you will NOT get all the dirt. Don't believe me? Pull your carpet up and see what you find. I have a schedule that I try to keep but life is unpredictable so it may or may not happen. My schedule is simple. Monday, Wednesday, Friday vaccum. Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday sprinkle carpet deodorizer. So without further ado, I'd like to share my simple carpet deodorizer with you.

Citrus Carpet Deodorizer

You'll need:
2 cups baking soda
15 drops of orange essential oil
15 drops of lemon essential oil
[orange and lemon are safe for both children and pets]
(Or 30 drops of your preferred oil)
A container with a lid that has holes

What you'll do:
Simply mix 1 cup of baking soda in a bowl with your 15 drops of orange. Pour into container. I used a mason jar. Mix the other 1 cup of baking soda and 15 drops of lemon oil in the bowl you just emptied. Empty your bowl, again, into your container. Cap and shake to mix the deodorizer evenly.
For my mason jar I took a piece of pretty cardstock cut to size and poked holes in it. I didn't trim the leftover on the sides because I find the look pleasant. To use simply shake on your carpet and allow to sit for at least an hour. I do mine the night before I plan to vaccum. This is a fun job for children.
Happy Vaccuming!
